In order to increase your chances of conceiving a child to the gender you wish, you need to learn how to identify your cervical fluid extremely well. It is a good idea to keep a chart for at least several cycles before you attempt to try to get pregnant.
One theory is that sperm that carry the male chromosome are tiny and fragile but very quick, whereas the female sperm are larger and hardier, but rather sluggish. Those that adhere to this theory claim that you can improve your chances of conceiving a boy, for example, by timing intercourse one single time as close to ovulation as possible, then not again during the same cycle. The reasoning behind this being that the male sperm would race to their reward much faster than the female sperm. In addition, this will assure that the male sperm have as much access to the cervix as possible. Penetration should be deep at the moment of ejaculation in order to give the males a headstart, while the larger female sperm move slower.
As legend would have it, the Chinese Gender Chart was buried in a royal tomb over 700 years ago. Recently discovered, the chart has been used to predict the gender of an unborn child based on the mother's age and month of conception.
Simply find the age of the mother at the time of conception on the chart below and then follow across to the month the baby was conceived to find the predicted gender. Although this chart is said to have a success rate of over 90 percent, keep in mind that this is solely for entertainment purposes. Enjoy!
There are tons of old wives’ tales out there about how to conceive a girl or a boy. Before and during my pregnancy, I thought I’d heard them all. But here’s a new one: A study from the Netherlands suggests that eating cheese, beans and nuts could put the odds of conceiving baby girl in your favor. They found that moms who cut out salty foods and consumed lots of calcium (dairy products) and magnesium (beans and nuts) were 80 percent more likely to have girl. (Side note: Study participants were told to eat at least a pound of dairy a day. That doesn't sound healthy at all!)
The researchers also say timing is everything, but that’s nothing new. Several books, including How to Choose the Sex of Your Baby by Landrum Shettles and David Rorvik and Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler, claim that you can “choose" your baby's gender by having sex on certain days of your menstrual cycle. The authors say their methods aren't foolproof, and I think they sound a little too good to be true.
Methods to try to determine a baby's sex don't end there. Moms on the iVillage Gender Determination Community Message Board (which has over 300,000 posts) have tried some weird ones, including, to conceive a girl:
- Sipping Crystal Light
- Popping cranberry supplements or drinking cranberry juice
- Sticking to a vegetarian diet
- Having your partner to wear tight briefs instead of boxers
- Having sex in the missionary position
- Using a lubricant, like Astroglide
- Asking your guy to drink a caffeinated beverage before sex
- Having an orgasm
